NOTE STORAGE On this device

Short version: Thoughts does not run a cloud notebook. Text, checklists, photos, files, voice notes, transcripts, locations, QR values, tags and settings are saved in local app storage on your device unless you choose to export, share or back them up yourself.

What Thoughts stores

Thoughts lets you capture several kinds of notes: text, checklists, photos, files, voice, location and QR scans. The app may store note titles, bodies, checklist items, attachments, audio recordings, transcripts, coordinates or place text, QR values, tags, colors, pinned/favorite/archive state and app settings.

This data is stored locally through the app runtime and device storage. There is no required Thoughts account and no mandatory server sync.

03 / PERMISSIONS

Permissions are tied to actions

  • Local storage: required so the app can save notes, attachments, settings, exports and imported backups on this device.
  • Camera: optional, used when you choose a photo note or QR scan.
  • Microphone: optional, used when you choose to record a voice note.
  • Location: optional, used when you choose to save a location note.

AI tags and transcription

If you enable AI hashtags, the app can suggest tags for the note you are drafting. If you enable voice transcription, Thoughts uses a Whisper model to turn audio into text on-device.

The selected Whisper model file may be downloaded and cached the first time it is used. That model download can contact the model host, but your note text and audio are not sent to that host for transcription.

Practical meaning: model files may come from the network, but the private work of reading your note or transcribing your voice happens locally.

05 / EXPORTS

Sharing and backups are your choice

Thoughts includes export and import tools so you can take your notebook with you. An exported JSON backup may include the note content and metadata you saved in the app. Once you store that export somewhere else, that copy is controlled by you and by the service or device where you place it.

The same applies when you share a file, photo, audio clip, QR value or backup using another app.

06 / DELETION

Deleting local notes

You can delete individual notes, clear archived notes or erase all local notes from the device. Because Thoughts does not keep a server copy of your notebook, deleted local data cannot be recovered by Thoughts.

Deleting data inside Thoughts does not delete backups, screenshots or exported files you created outside the app.

External services

If you install Thoughts from Google Play, Google may process store and device information under its own policies. If a model file is downloaded for transcription, the model host may receive routine request metadata needed to serve that file.

These static web pages load fonts and interface assets from external CDNs. Those providers may receive ordinary web request metadata, but they do not receive your local notes from the Thoughts app.

Device security matters

Local-first storage means your device is the primary place where your notebook exists. Keep the device operating system updated, use a screen lock, and choose carefully where you export backups.

Policy updates

If Thoughts changes how it handles notes, permissions, AI models or exports, this policy should be updated so the page continues to match the app idea and behavior.
